Commando Speed March 2007

Almost 160 competitors - a good turnout given current UK military operational commitments -  loaded up their bergens and took to the hills for this year's event, overseen, as usual, by the Army Physical Training Corps.

The weather was inclement, with strong winds and torrential rain. This, combined with some extremely large puddles, ensured a good soaking was enjoyed by all the usual suspects who turned out. As is customary, an all ranks prize giving dinner was held in the evening.

The official team results for 2007 were as follows:-

 1st. CTCRM        2nd. FPGRM       3rd. MSUOTC

CTCRM reversed last years result by coming in ahead of FPGRM. This made it three wins in four years for CTCRM.

MSUOTC took third place with a good performance.

Our thanks as always go to Donald Cameron of Achnacarry for allowing  us use of the Achnacarry Estate and also to all the competitors who raised sponsorship monies for the Commando Benevolent Fund and Airborne Forces charities.

Holland 2006

During May 2006, the Association undertook its 13th successful year of Netherlands Wing Courses in Holland. The 20 foot wide drainage ditch across the centre of the DZ led to some early baths and near misses!

Estonia 2006

During June 2006, the Association traveled to Estonia to undertake its fourth year of Estonian wings courses. Jumps were made using the D6 'chute from an AN-2. The standard of hospitality and jumping provided by the Estonian Air Force was first class and all jumpers qualified for their wings.  According to the highly trained ABMP Tasting Team, the vodka wasn't half bad either...

Jump Dakota 2000

The Association's seventh annual trip to jump in Holland had the added bonus of the Dakota Club's superbly maintained historic C-47, N47FK, complete with temporary paint job from filming Steven Spielberg's "Band of Brothers". It was impossible to jump it and not come back smiling.
"The Dak" - Impossible to jump it and not come back smiling...

The weather, which had been good during the first week, was less co-operative during the second. Despite this, everyone was able to jump the Dakota with brisk winds ensuring some entertaining backward landings. To commemorate Liberation Day, at the end of the second week, a visiting B-25 Mitchell Bomber joined the C-47 in a flypast over the town before two sticks of ABMP parachutists were dropped on the airfield.

Still going strong - Three U.S. Veterans inspect the C-47 Dakota and a visiting B-25 Mitchell bomber.
